I just purchased a 1988 Force 50 #507X88. There is no A, B, C, or D. The arm on the timer that goes to the link on the throttle post is broken off. Parts books show that it could be a F658029 or a F684029. How do I tell without a suffix. Also the prices for these timers (1988) range from 50.00 to 651.00. Any suggestions?

Take a closer look at the last character. Are you sure it's not the letter "B". Anyways, the answer is in the coils. Look at the coils.

P/N 658029 (model "A", "B", "C") is for motors that have the CD and coil integrated into one unit.

P/N 684029 (model "D") is for motors that have a separate CD Module and two separate coils. One CD module fires two separate coils.
