Timing 3.0

I have a 1987 3.0 i timed it today should i have checked dwell first .Tming was off or do i need to put new points set dwell and then timing i never done points is it difficult thanks.

yes.........dwell first, then timing. Not hard at all, just change points, rough in with a feeler gauge, then fine tune with a dwell meter.

How do i use a dwell meter i borrowed one its digital fancy one and how do i crank engine over to set it any advice what i connect leads to etc.
