timing a 35 hp

I was going to check the timing on my 76, 35hp with electric start, when I saw the spark adj. screw dosn't even come close to the (i think) the armature plate when the throttle is wide open. How can this be?? I got the motor back from the shop where new condensers were installed. Motor sounds like it's back firing. That's why I was going to check the timing.

take it back. it should be running perfect. or they should have told you differently when yu picked it up.

I was hoping to get a little info before going back, so I look like I know what I’m talking about :/
