Re: Timing belt - Johnson 80Hp 1966

Depends on whether it has the alternator or not. But they are similar. On the alternator flywheel there is a punch mark (actually 2) just above and below the ring gear. You align that mark with the timing mark on the gear guard, near the nose end of the coil. On the magneto model, there is a line on the flywheel that you align with the line on the recoil starter housing.

Then you align the notch on the rim of the magneto/distributor pulley with the safety switch button, and slip the belt on. Adjust the belt tension so it flexes 1/4-3/8" under finger pressure midway between the pulleys.

....thanks....but in whitch position must be the moving (rotating) distributor, there are two inscription "break points" on the case of distributor.
The distributor must be rotate on the left - the "break points" touch the rubber limiter or the position of the distributor must be other?
My Johnson has the alternator.

The distributor (throttle) position makes no difference. Look for the notch and align it with the switch button. The other marks are for setting the points.
