My boat is in a slip during the summer and I want to replace the bunks on my trailer. Should this be done right before pulling the boat. I'm afraid of finding nice straight wood only to find that it has warped from being in the weather. My thinking is to do it right before pulling the boat so the boards can form to the boat. Am I over thinking this? Has anyone replaced there bunks months before putting a boat on them? I know I've done home projects where i pick up straight wood and by the time I use them they are not the same. Thanks for any input.

Ayuh,... I believe so....

Quality Lumber is usually dimensionally stable...
It sounds like you've been buying Hemlock...
Besides,...
Whatever lumber you use will Still be exposed to the elements All of next summer...and forever longer..

Mine actually warps just as smidge while trailered. Doesn't have to be perfect. Used some padded indoor/outdoor carpet and stapled/

Thats always been my thinking too, I change them out then put the boat on and let them "Warp in".

doesn't matter how warped it is, the weight of the boat will squish it flat. (actually if you find some wood with a nice bow in it, put it so the high spot is oriented up, it will help support the boat!)

Just did mine, the weight of the boat will warp them to conform to the shape of the hull either way...
