Timing for 125hp Force (1989 l-drive)

While reading the forums it seems that everyone has a TDC mark on the flywheel and three marks to the left (advanced) and three marks to the right (retarded). 32,30,28... 0 ... 28,30,32
My Clymer book shows a zero (TDC) and about twenty marks, and it suggest setting WOT while cranking at 2deg negative. How can I achieve -2deg...? Is each mark 1deg?

I think I see what they're talking about. If you have the Prestolite CD ignition system with separate coils and CD modules (typically blue or black in color), you set the static timing 2 degrees less than what the specs call for. So if your motor calls for 32 degrees advance BTDC at WOT, when you make your static adjustment, you actually set it for 30 degrees. If it call for 30 degrees advance BTDC at WOT, you actually set it for 28 degrees on your static adjustment. This is due to the characteristics of the Prestolite CD ignition system.

Static timing adjustment is where you set the timing by just cranking the motor over with the starter.

Dynamic timing is set with the motor actually running at WOT. Kind of dangerous unless you have some type of special test tank with a special test prop. Imagine trying to set the timing at WOT zooming across the lake bouncing across the waves! That spinning flywheel acts like a saw blade when it comes into contact with flesh. That's why the static method is used in most cases.

So what line would it line up with while testing (cranking engine while in WOT position)?

Specs for your engine show it should be set at 30 degrees dynamic timing. That means you need to set it to 28 degrees to the left of the zero using the static timing method.
