I bought the boat from a guy and he said it runs right.well it don't. First I thought I had carb problems and now I know I don't. It's the timing. It's got a dead spot in the throttle.how would I synk the throttle with the linkage without a timing light if possible?

Re: Timing help

What you're asking is impossible, sorry to say.

If you're saying that when the engine is running, and as you advance the throttle, the engine has a dead spot and wants to either hesitate or die out.... that is caused by one or more of three things, assuming that you have proper compression and spark.

1 - The timer base under the flywheel is sticking resulting in retarded spark.

2 - The fine passageways in one or more of the carburetors is somewhat fouled, clogged, gummed.

3 - The throttle butterflies are not synced with the timing... the butterflies should just start to open when the scribe mark on the metal cam is aligned dead center with the center of the throttle cam roller.

NOTE that the throttle cam roller should be approximately 3/8" in diameter. Some of those rollers have a clear sleeve that breaks easily and causes the size to drop down to about 3/16" or less. When this happens, there is no way one can adjust the synchronization properly.
