Thanks ahead of time guys...here is the problem....my 85 merc was running ok but the carbs needed rebuild so i went and did that which seemed to clear most of running issues up. then i decided to reset timing and then the real problems arose...wont even fire now...My seloc manual describes a timing procedure for a 1975 85 hp merc but my motor does not have the """STRAIGHT LINE""mark on the TOP of the flywheel......it DOES have the timing scale on the vertical surface of the flywheel as well as a metal timing pointer. If i make sure the number one cyclinder is at TDC using a screwdriver should i then make a mark on the flywheel thats aligned with the pointer or make a mark that lines up the center of the crankshaft with the new mark i just made as well as the center of the distributor shaft and then turn the magneto pully until the arrow on it also points to the mark ? ...thanks again

How many threads are you going to start on the same problem?
