I know this is somewhat off topic, but the OP might like to know as well. What's the difference other than the display of an analog and a digital timing light? Will either work?

If you mean the difference between the analog kind that has a dial on it and a digital kind with a LCD display. The difference is just that its easier to read I guess. And the digital ones are also tachs. I got the Actron digital one off of ebay new for about the price of the analog kind with the dial on it.

It is a digital shop tach, timing light, and shows adavance.

Whether digital or the analog dial kind, the settings on the gun are to check the dist advance.

The timing lights with no settings on them I dont think you can check advance with.
