timing my outboard?

I do not have a dial indicator and my mechanic told me he uses a long screwdriver to determine TDC. It sounds like a joke but i believe it works. According to the manuel, a inline 4 75hp has to be at:

- TDC
- Timing decal reads 464 on flywheel.


i think i timed it right, but i am not for sure. is it possible that it is that easy to do??
