I just checked my timing last night, as I have not done this in a while. The motor runs pretty strong all the time, I can run about 40mph currently, but my Rpms have been a little low. They have been running around 4300. I used to have this up to 5000, which was the Highest I could ever get this engine. It would run about 44 at that time.

So the Manual says this thing is supposed to be Timed at 28 Degrees, so this is exactly what I set it at. I have not yet run the boat, but the timing is now dead on.

I started the engine when I was done last night, not on the water, since it was late, but just fired it up real quick to see how it started. It took alot longer than normal to start. The timing was set at about 30 degrees, before I just adjusted it.

What would this difference make? Its been so long since I have done the timing on something, I have forgotten everything about it.

Also my plugs looked really wet and had alot of black on them, so I cleaned them off and put them back in. I think my IDLE mixture is ok, but I am still tweaking this also.

Any ideas, I will be trying it on the lake tommorrow and running it tonight on my hose first to see how she runs.

Thanks,
Bryan

Re: Timing on an 88 Force 125HP

Ok, I just did alot more reading and found my old post of when i did this last time in about 2002.

Now I am really confused. Someone in there stated for it to be set at 28 degrees for Idle, on the throttle and that it should be timed to 30 degress on the FULL WOT. This is what it sounds like I did in the past, so if that is true the timing was correct?

I might be having to redo it tonight, lol

Thanks,
Bryan
