Good Day All - I just want confirmation on the timing procedure before I jump into it. I have a 2000 (Red engine) Volvo Penta 4.3GL PEFS 4bbl. The boat is out of the water. This is how I believe I am supposed to time the engine but want some expert assurance -

1) Mark idler pulley on TDC line & timing chain cover notch with white paint

2) Start engine & warm to operating temp

3) Set to correct idle speed

4) Shut off engine and insert timing shunt into distributor
(not attaching B+ jumper yet)

5) Attach timing light and set dial on back of timing light to 1 degree advance
(I use 87 octane fuel)

6) Slightly loosen distributor bolt

7) Re-Start engine

8) Attach B+ jumper lead

9) Point timing light and twist distributor until TDC & Notch on timing chain cover align

10) Tighten distributor

11) Detach B+ jumper lead

12) Shut engine off & disconnect timing light

13) Re-Check and adjust idle if needed

So that's it .... I think - Input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Don - I had read the thread you posted and it is pretty clear except when it comes to the timing light itself - My main question/concern is that I am supposed to set the light on 1 degree and then align the marks - Does that sound correct?
