I have a 97 mercruiser 5.7, 2 barrel carb. alpha 1

I've got a small problem, when i turn the key to start my boat, it turns REALLY slow for a second or two then fires right up. (this is after ive reached operating temperature and all that) I thought my battery might be weak or something so i put a full charge on it, and it did the same thing. so then i switched batteries and put my optima on there to see if it started any stronger, same thing.

so now i'm down to wondering if the starter is trying to drag? but like i said after the first few seconds of trying to start it with it turning over slow, it starts up.

A friend of mine was telling me that the timing might be off a little and causing my problem, i was just looking for a second opinion as to wether this might sound like a timing problem before i get out there and start adjusting it for nothing.........i just hope its not the starter cuz it looks like a trick to get off.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Ayuh,... It Couldbe the Timing....
Or,..
It Could be the starter's Wiring....

A Timing light will tell you If it's the Timing...

Removing,+ sanding,+ cleaning Both ends of the battery/ starter wires will tell you if it's the Wiring...
