Timing question 98 Evinrude 115 SPL crossflow V4

I have a question about timing. I have had this outboard for years actually 20 and never messed with the timing before.. Never had the need to, however I have had some performance issues lately and everything else seems to check out OK so I thought I would check the timing. I have one of the generic repair manuals and it says for a crossflow V4 85-115 HP the timing should be 27-29 BTDC However on the carburetor cover it is clearly printed 26 BTDC.

The model number is E115TSLECM Does anybody know what the proper Maximum Spark Advance timing for this motor is?

The timing does not go out on them unless somebody physically moved it.

I understand that and that is why I never bothered to chedk it before. Hoever I did do quite a bit of work on her this spring. Put in new control cables, rebuilt the carbs, new sparkplugs and wires. Nothing should have moved but I thought I might check it for the heck of it and that discrepancy between the manual and what is printed on the engine bothers me.

The manual I got, if its a 1998, says 25-27BTDC for enginetype. 90CV, 1992-1996 27-29.

Thanks, I'll go with 26 unless I hear different. That is what is printed on the carburetor cover. I must be reading this manual wrong. That's the problem with these manuals that cover several models.

Stick with the 26. It's on the carb cover for a reason.
