Re: timing question

Laker, You will find it difficult to adjust carb/timing synchronization. it will be difficult to make idle carb. pickup adjustment.

Re: timing question

This is a relationship issue and it depends not on the belt but whether you are talking about the crankshaft or distributor being one tooth off. If the crank is one tooth advanced in relation to the distributor, the timing is retarded and you will likely notice decreased performance -- unless you readjusted the timing to compensate. If the crank is one tooth retarded, the timing is advanced and detonation and possible engine damage can occur unless the timing is adjusted to compensate. Timing is always relative to crankshaft position so the belt has nothing to do with it. Its the position of the distributor relative to the crank position.

Don't go over 21 max timeng. It can be deadly!

Re: timing question

By using the "one tooth off" I meant one degree on the timing reading..
-so if it is 20 what will it do?

Re: timing question

If it will run good at 20. It should be ok. on mine the manual said to set it at 23 max advance. But with todays gas go no more than 21 max advance. Or it can spark-knock and eat your pistons!

Re: timing question

Just make sure the belt is on right and time it for 21. Real simple and safe.

-W

Re: timing question

I wonder if thats what just happened...does it happen all in one shot or gradually?
I just had a paid profession reset it all and now the #1 cyl is dead-after 1 run(but of coarse it was nothing on their part)....

Re: timing question

And what does it do when the reed is going out or how can you tell if it is?
And when the lower tube that lubes the lower bearings disconnects what will it cause /damage?

Re: timing question

That tube lubes the top bearing ... If #1 is dead you are going to have to tear her down, so replace the bearings then.
Jon
