Timing quistions for dots on 65 merc 650 kf whats what ????

So im preparing to check my timing .. looking at the carbs with the flywheel on tdc to the right i have two sets of three dots one set about a inch the other maybe a couple inches,then to the left i have one set of three dots ??Does anyone know which set is btdc and atdc and degrees of what is what ...I understand the process however since ive never done one and dont know what marks are what as it doesnt have a sticker, just these dots ???

So after i ground plugs hook up light ..To check it just give it full throttle turn key to rotate flywheel and point light and it should read 321/2 degrees for max correct then i can just adjust screw in or out if i need to add or subtract degrees ,IS that minuse two degrees for todays fuel etc.. like everyone sais ?? I beleive it all ok i just when check my max to be sure before i go out on water ???and what degrees is the .o15 ???

ok i was just asking cuz people have said to minus two degrees , from what I have read ...Just trying to clarify it thanks though for the words ...Others have told me to use a light I have a dial indicator however i couldnt tell when the point on mag are opening with mt ohm meter as it reads through coil , following manual ..So other guys have told me to use the light its the "best" way ?? I beleive the primary is ok i just really want to learn how to do this and wanted to check my max as i dont think im getting my full rpms so trying to figure it out im not gonna adjust anything until im 100 percent sure !!It also could of been my prop change but just being anal and want to learn how to check it i beleive primary is fine ...

No that's not for todays fuel how would Mercury have marked the flywheel in 1965 for 2013s fuel. That's why that engine is timed with timing stops not a light. If you must continue the way you are, once the max spark is set, hold the advance just touching the stop and at the point that the second throttle pickup should just touch the carb lever, there is no way the adjust the primary pickup the way you are going with out a .015 stop. If you want your engine to live time it as the Original OEM manual describes.

what is a .015 stop u mean dial indicator ??

ok great ill play with it ive tried before however i just cant tell when points open on mag ..The pitch in sound doesnt change at all its stay at a very high beep ??I use a ohm meter all day on the property i work for as a maint super..but this is different than ac and its very hard to tell idk why ??? i even tried two different meters one being a nice fluke ...I had mech.. even try it and he couldnt tell said maybe i was reading through the coil ???? however if i pull the #1 plug and turn ignition on I can hear click when advancing but no spark i seen a vid.. of a guy timing this way n looking for spark on a 71 1150 merc but he had spark I dont but it does click wich is when points opening right ??? I know its a different ign.. system and timing that way isnt accurate i was just saying ...This is my problem but ill take another shot at it and see if i can tell a difference i didnt have ignition on when doing this though could that be why i cant tell when meter ohms ?? Ignition should be on correct ???

hmmm meaning the switch has to be on correct ???If so thats my problem then ..duh Im learning lol .. And I thank you again for all your help !!!!
