My timing tab has no marks on it. Can anyone tell me where 8 degrees BTDC is? 260hp Mercruiser V8 Alpha 1 (1985)

I thought I'd read that each indentation is 2 degrees, but that would mean that my tab only goes to like 6 degrees. Or is it that every point, whether pointing in or pointing out is 2 degreees -- making my tab go to 12 degrees below?

I would take some sandpaper and clean up the timing tab and the lines and numbers my show up. Just a thought.

Your best bet with a tab like that is to use an advancing timing light. Set your advance, adjust the dizzy until the balancer line is in the large V.

A trick I learned is to use a little white out on the damper mark and on the tab which will make them very visible when using the light. Just a thought.

Blk-n-blu,
That's what I did. I put a drop of white out on the tab for 8 degrees.. Also used some on the line on the harmonic balancer.. worked like a charm!
