Can the timing be adjusted any other way than getting the motor up to 5000 rpm s? This is on a 89' 60 hrs evin. Also if my cavitation plate is below the botom of the hull would this lower the output of rpm s.

Re: Timing

I am not positive this applies to you engine. Someone should chime in and say so. Don't go by my opinion that it will apply.

Go up one notch in the forum Section to the Engine FAQs section and look for the post from Joe Reeves called "Joe Reeves WOT timing procedure"
This procedure may apply to your engine.

Good luck!

that will work for you if your motor is equiped with slow features then they will need to be disabled ,also you may need to get you a manual

Re: Timing

yes if your cav plate is below it can lower rpm if you are running a motor setup for a different length transom putting yor plate 4 or five inches below the boat you will have seious probs ,

Re: Timing

Not that low it's only about an inch or so lower than the bottom of the hull. I don't know if I have the quick start setup I will try to look it up although it is an 89' VRO 60 hp. So if it is not the quick start than I would set the timing to 19 degees btdc ?

Re: Timing

ran boat today takes off like a champ timing was dead on. Thinking about changing the impeller any pointers of loosening the bolts on the lower unit as they are probably siezed?
