Timing

I have a 2002 merc MCM 4.3L L/H 262 cid. 190hp engine and a alpha 1 stern drive. I justed changed the distributor cap and the sensor inside. The question that I need answered is about the timing of the engine. In the Seloc book for my engine, it says that I need a special tool to do the timing of the engine. It said that to do this it requires the use of a scan tool or code tool. What is this and were can I get one, how much do they cost.

Does your engine have a carburetor or is it EFI???

If it's EFI then you may need one of the tools, But if it's not then you will not need one of the tools.

It has a carb and it also has a DENSO (131800-7071) this is what it on the part. The part # is 861251-1
