timing

I have a 1992 evinrude and wanted to check the timing when I got it the timing advance linkage was not hooked up.I got it close but just not right.What cylinder do I put the timing light on and what cylinder is #1? Facing the back of the motor what cylinder is what. I saw An X on one wire is that #1 cylinder?

J/E outboard cylinders are numbered top to bottom with 1 at the top.
