I just read another post about vacuum advance.I have an AQ125A and wanted to check the timing.I have never done any of this but after some reading and some advice I went to give it a try.1.The book says 10 degrees btdc.I see numbers on the block but I can't find any mark on the pulley to line up with the light. Also I was confused about the vacuum adv.not being anywhere. Is there anyone willing to help me along.I would really like to learn to do this stuff for myself.

Re: Timing ?

You don't have a vacuum advance. Didn't you read any of the replies in that thread?

If you want to learn how to do things on your "BOAT" engine, get a service manual. They are not like cars. Plus, get one for your drive too.
You will still have questions, but the manuals will get you through most of normal stuff.
Go to your local Volvo Penta dealer and have them get you manual # 7739856-8

It's a very small notch in the crank pulley, but it is there.

Re: Timing ?

Thanks Don.I read and got that answer from the post.I almost jumped into that post but decided I had better not crash his thread.I Will go out and get that manual asap.I bought a Clymers but after just a few projects I allready am not to impressed with it.I don't mean any disrespect by trying to bypass the profesional techs such as yourself. The shop in my area has a Volvo tech with an EXCELLENT reputation. The problem is he is the ONLY ONE in our area.4 other marinas 2 (come right to the docks)mechs and not one of them is certified to work on Volvos!!! They all just say the same thing."Take it to Shore Acres" He is the guy you need.Well If I take it to him It could be weeks before he can even look at it.With help from you guys and parts from him I have gotten pretty far. This boat has become a Major part of my life.As a matter of fact I-BOATS has become a major part of my life.Thinking of starting a DON S. fan club.. Thanks
