timming gear cover rusted out

I have a 1978 181 cid omc chev engine that requires a new or used timming gear cover,its rusted out in several places,does anyone know where I can get this item? I live in Nova Scotia Canada.

If you can establish what car model/years used that engine, might be able to order from NAPA or GM. Can ask both?

I will check ebay,also the 181cid is a 3.0L chev engine I should have mentioned that.

They tell me this engine was only used in marine applications

That engine has only been used in industrial and marine aplications for the last 40+ years. NAPA should be able to help you, just get one for a mercruiser of the same year. You will also want to replace the oil pan, if it is not leaking now it will be soon.

I have the same motor (although it's a '97). I have found that many parts are equivalent to the 4 cyl. used in the Chevy II, which was built in the 70's (I think).

Napa, Autozone, Checker and Pep Boys usually find what I want when I tell them to try that vehichle/engine.

A local boat dealer told me about this, and it has worked many times.

I forgot to mention that the motor in the Chevy II was a 2.5L, but several parts are compatible.

That will work, but the timing marks are in a different spot....p.m. me - I have covers I can send you one
