Tin roofing as underskin?

I recently picked up an old pontoon for fishing. I was wondering about the underskin. I have read multiple posts on here regarding aluminum sheet as underskin material. Well, this old boat has tin roofing material used as the underskin. It may not be the prettiest but it seams to work fine and is not very heavy. Any major disadvantages of this? I just thought this might be a suggestion for the budget minded folks on here looking to add an underskin without dropping too much cash. Please blast away as I am interested in your comments!

Like the idea of more options. Already want to upgrade the fishfinder and the anchor winch this spring and my wife gets kind of budget minded on me at times. But then she knows I'm doing all of this for her boating and fishing enjoyment.

The only thing against it might be rust if steel, otherwise why not?

It is actually the galvanized steel corrugated roofing material. Talking with the prior owner, it was used off of an old barn when he put it on and had been on the toon for 5 plus years and there are no signs of rust. It certainly is not as pretty as a clean install of alluminum sheeting but works pretty well. Compaired to the cost of the alluminum, it's cheap!

I think there is aluminum roofing as well. Probably cheaper than pontoon skin.
I have the painted/galvinized steel roofing on my house and barn here in the northeast.
Been on there 16 years even the bare cut edges don't show any rust

Make certain what the old roofing is. check with a magnet and if it is old galvanized steel roofing you need to check for currosion, because steel and alum do not mix. The electrical charge between the two dissimilar metals will gradually eat our your cross members and the old roofing.
If it is galv Steel you need to seperate the materials by using 30# roll roofing material or something else (as sugggested by the members of the forum) to seperate the 2 metals.
Remove the old roofing, cut strips of felt the width of your cross members glue the strips to the cross members, with some cheap glue, and then reattach the old roofing using SS screws. oxbowaster
