On Friday, I had my windshield tinted and spent the last two days on the lake (you know, just to test it out
). FYI, I took it to a tint shop here in Fresno, CA. Probably not the best around, but they were able to do it for $200, best tint they have, and I got the 5%. (My windshield has a pretty serious curve to it, so that was why I had it done, and why it cost a bit more) The really good tint shop here wanted $750, but for that they would completely take the windshield out, and flow on the tint for a "factory" job. I have no doubts it would be better, but for a $550 savings, I can deal with minor imperfections. Here are my thoughts on it.
The positives:
I think it looks better (subjective, I know)
Keeps the dash a bit cooler
less glare on the gauges
Glare reduced on fish finder, and easier to read
The negatives:
It is dark, so visibility through the windshield is reduced, completely at night, and glare (from the slope of the windshield) is pretty bad during the day. Don't plan on using the windshield to see through if you do this.
That's the only negative I could find, although in my case, it really isn't a negative. I was never comfortable looking through the windshield anyway (pre-tint), because my field of vision was greatly compromised. I ALWAYS either stand, or sit up on the seat so I can see over the windshield, never through it, so for ME, this was not a negative. But, if you do use the windshield on your boat, this is not something for you.
Verdict: For me, I love it, but realize that it is not for everybody.
Will post before and after pix asap. I don't have any yet.
