I have a 16ft fibreglass boat, less than 10 years old. Painted the bottom and sides up to the water line with Interlux bottom coat, the harder stuff.
The bottom of the boat is good, but along the sides and the back, there are lots of little bubbles, about 1/8 inch diameter or so.
Why are they only on the sides and how do I get rid of them?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have

Re: Tiny Bubbles

did you paint over existing paint? if so, maybe a reaction with the two paints. did you follow directions completely? sanding, cleaning, temp and humidity controls, etc. just throwing out ideas. probably need to sand and repaint to correct. good luck-

Re: Tiny Bubbles

Thank you for your prompt reply. I painted the bottom of the boat before, using the same Interlux product. The bubbles used to be all over the bottom of the boat as well.
I sanded it all down and followed the instructions on the paint can. Two years later, the paint was beginning to wear off, so I repeated the entire process. The bubbles on the bottom have never come back, but the ones on the side did.
Of course, I think the fact that the boat sits in the water from April to October does not help.
I do however wash the bottom at least every other week.

Re: Tiny Bubbles

The bubles are from water getting under the paint. It is a real pain to get rid of as the effected area has to be sanded and dried VERY well before repainting. It is even worse if it gets under the gel coat.
