Tire blow out....

I'll tell everyone my little story, i'd like to know what you think. So, I just put 2 BRAND new carlisle trailer tires on my trailer that cost me about 100$ each. I told them i wanted the strongest tire i could get. The tires i had on the trailer weren't bad i just didn't know exactly how old they were and wanted to try to save myself some trouble on the side of the road possibly and peace of mind.

Anyway was headed to the lake mem. day weekend feel a little vibration, look back, and one of the trailer tires is smoking, and flat. Got it changed went on my way. i couldn't find a nail so i was thinking it was a blowout.

Next day i went to some different small tire shop to have one of my old tires re mounted so i would have a spare to head back home with. after they got one of the old tires mounted, he found a problem with the valve stem leaking, which is why my new tire went flat in the first place.

So long story short, it wasn't the tires' fault, it was a valve stem leaking, BUT shouldn't the tire place have changed the valve stems when they mounted my new tires? i thought that was kind of standard practice? anyway, the place i bought my tires says that their supplier won't cover anything on trailer tires, so i've got a 100$ brand new tire thats trash. What does everyone think about that? i'm pretty mad they didn't change my valve stems and now i'm out a hundred

Yea that really is no good Me I would guess the place is incompetent and never go back.

I'm glad you only lost the tire, I don't know if you had a blowout or not but I have some crappy tires on my trailer and the thought of a blowout and the trailer swaying wildly when it happens is a pretty scary thought.
Maybe the trailer wont sway wildly on a blowout situation, yours didn't thank god, and thank goodness you had a spare.

I say give the manager of the tire shop a chance to make it right. H/She may be more than willing to try to remedy the situation and make you a satisfied customer. The valve could have been new and stilled failed, not due incompetence.

I had a blow out on the trailer on the way home from the lake on Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. Mine was a bona fide blow out. Cruising down the highway and a here POP!!! Sounded like a gun shot. Looked in the mirror and the left trailer tire is shredded. My trailer didn't get all squirly though, thank goodness.

a shredded tire and a receipt from a few days ago and the store manager should be helpful. that was a potentially dangerous situation they put you in.

btw, carlisle tires suck.

The last time I had Carlisles on my trailer was the last time I will ever have Carlisles. 2 blow outs within 500 miles and the pressure was right at where is should be. Moved from 14" to 15" and Titans. No problems for 4000 miles now.

I have been running Load Star brand tires. Not sure who makes them but they wear great and never a blow out. Have pulled them at 75 mph..

Northern Tool sells them for about 50 each.
I probably have a couple thousand miles on the set i have now and they still look new...

Are you sure you didn't get new valve stems and maybe they didn't put them in correctly? I know Discount Tires used to ask if you wanted new valve stems, and even if you said no they would replace them anyways...it was quicker to simply break the old one off and use a new one, and they only cost a few cents anyways.

Re: Tire blow out....

I had new tires put on my motorcycle, road it a few days then took the truck a few days, went to ride the bike again (I always check tire pressure before I go) and it was low. I added air and checked for leaks, it was the insert of the stem(the part you push down to let air in and out), Luckily I had a spare. No problems since. There are a lot of places these days that just change the tire and add air. In the old days they dunked them in a water bath to look for bubbles, that would have helped us both. If he never offered you new stems, its his fault (kinda) If he offered and you turned them down its yours. I always put that kind of stuff on the work order so there was a record in case of a come back like yours...

Re: Tire blow out....

yea, they definitely DIDN'T ask me if i wanted new ones.........and if they replaced them anyway without asking and put one in wrong then i think its still their fault. I haven't gotten anywhere with them because they say that their supplier won't cover replacement on trailer tires....the mgr hasn't tried to make it right at all, so i'm just going to forget it, It's a shame that i've bought 2 trailer tires, 4 truck tires and given them some other automotive business in the last six months and they don't want to do anything.........O well their loss

Luckily like the others have said, the trailer didn't get squirely and make a bigger mess of things

Re: Tire blow out....

The fact that their supplier doesn't cover trailer tires is completely irrelevant. They should make it right regardless of who covers the cost of the tires.

Loadstars are great, they are made by Kenda. Towmaster by Denman is an even more loved trailer tire.

I've never seen a tire place change tires and leave the old valve stems in. Although maybe it was the new stems leaking.

i agree completely, this was an installation error. the shop should eat the cost, not the supplier.

what kind of shop is it? local or chain?...start writing some letters if there's any sort of corporate office.
