I fixed a nasty 3" rip in a sidewall.

I sewed it up with waxed nylon cord.

A patch was installed inside for good measure.

Shoo goo got smeared over the outside threads.

What do you think? Good as new?

I don't know a whole lot about tire sidewalls, but I would not trust it at all.

You can get a used tire for the price of your repair. I wouldn’t put my family over that tire

I am guessing that that tire is a recapped 10 x 16.5. If it is let me know how that patch holds up. I may have to try it myself someday.

There is a reason tire repair people do not fix tires with a sidewall puncture or cut. It ain't safe regardless how the repair is done.

Nice stitch work......shame its not going to work for very long. Reminds me of the time I had a recap come off 80 miles from my destination. I super glued it back on and made the 80 miles to a tire shop. I would not advise either method though.

This type of repair is more common than you may think on off road equipment, farm tractors and log skidders. That is why i thought in an earlier post that this was a tire off a skid steer. People have been doing it for years. Sew it up with either wire or nylon cord, glue a large boot on the inside, and replace the tube. You're not about to run it a 60 on the interstate. Years ago I stuck a Life magazine as a boot into a hay rake tire and used it that way for a week. When it was replaced it was still holding air.

You all laugh but it just might work.
Personally I would have just replaced it.

Just wanted to show what could be done in a pinch if you ruin two tires at once on a curb or rocky boat launch on a holiday weekend. I've fixed Jeep and dirtbike tires with the stought patches from TSC. Thought I'd pass it on. I guess I thought wrong... lol. Here is my patch kit. You get good at patching tires out west if you venture to the good spots so I carry this and a compressor.

Too bad you didn't say this was a demonstration of emergency repair in case a tire is damaged in the outback and may get you back to civilization for replacement.

You opened yourself up for the negative comments, especially with this - "What do you think? Good as new?"
