Re: tired 225

compression is good on all 6. it seems like its got hesitation....like when im blasting out of the hole it goes. but its slow. it seems like theres alot more there than what its giving me...studdering real bad then it goes. then when i get it up and im trimming up to get it to go good it sounds like it wants to go then u hear it open up and going...im not a mechanic, my old man knows a little bit. it almost sounds like it starving for fuel or something. im gonna check the plugs tomorrow and change them.. to check for spark i just need to pull out the plug but keep it on the wire and turn the motor right? i need help im not a mechanic im a fisherman lol

Describe "good compression". What are the numbers? What spark plugs are you running? Has the motor been sitting at any time for more than a month without running?

Ok, you'll probably want to get the right plugs (Champions) in there to avoid possible piston issues. Then cleaning the carbs would be a great idea. After sitting that long the carbs may be gummed up. Stabilized fuel will help, if you're going to let it sit it's best to run some thru the motor.

The combustion temps (not water temps) in your motor are designed around the Champion plugs. That's why you don't see any other brand listed in an E/J service manual for your motor. Fuel delivery, timing, head chambers and even the squish band is calibrated for Champion plugs. Other brands may burn hotter with their "equilivent" plug. You can run NGKs but I'd suggets going richer on the mid and high speed jets.

The opposite is true too. I'm sure you've heard Yamaha or Merc guys talk about "junk" Champions fouling out in their motors. That's because those motors were designed to run NGKs. The Champions were maybe a tad cooler and fouled out easier. Nothing wrong with either motor or spark plug. You're just using apples to try and make orange juice.

Running too hot of a heat range plug can cause piston damage. With todays fuel you don't want anything that adds combustion temps. If that were my motor I'd run QL77JC4s in it.

When you say "nothing" do you mean not even a click or do you mean it spun over but wouldn't start?

Re: tired 225

One thing that would cause that would be the neutral safety swich in the control. If the shifter isn't in neutral completely it may not have closed the circuit. A blown fuse will act almost the same but you didn't mention changing the fuse and it started.

If it's the neutral safety switch you'll still get a click from the primer solenoid when you push the key in and the tach will still respond when the key is turned on. If it happens again just move the shift lever and see what happens.
