Last weekend we took my in-laws out. And several times I had to say "we have to much weight up there" or "hey I can't see". 3 large adults and 1 young'un is a lot for the bow of a 19ft vee. So we were putting along just under a plane, the bow is about 3-4 inches out of the water. And here comes a wake.... It came over the bow by an easy 3 inches and would have continued if I did my kill the throttle. It was admittedly more than I was expecting  but man did they fly out of there. I so wish I had thought fast enough to grab the camera, it was right on the dash  . and there's no chance they will fall for it again. I could watch that over and over. They actually broke the support bracket on the windshield trying to squeeze through at the same time  nobody else laughed, its still a sore subject. Maybe I have a bad seense of hummor

I usually don't mind everyone sitting up there but it was a little excessive, and I was tired of being isolated behind the windshield.

Dumping the bow can at specific times provide the Captain with brief moments of pure Comical relief...

But like alcohol only in moderation, and I advise that you use this opportunity for very specific situations, over using it on the Admiral could result in the Captain being Flogged...or worse....

My family has learned from this trick as well. I tried to tell my step son and his girlfriend our lake was still cold in May, They found out when the bow cut through a particularly large wake and they got soaked. My wife thinks I did it on purpose.:D

All's well that ends well (almost) but you could have had a very serious incident on your hands due to your inexperience with your boat. Hope you learned something.

You may have avoided the whole thing but accelerating, not cutting the throttle.

You learned that you had loaded your boat in a dangerous manner--just as illegal as going over the capacity plate.

You learned that one of the dangers on a small boat in a situation is the passengers all moving suddenly to another part of the boat (lots of small boats sink here when someone gets a big fish at the stern corner and others come to "help.")

Most boaters have stuffed the bow at least once, you almost have to in order to find your boat's limitations, but you learn from it and how to avoid it the next time. And it should be more from conditions than improper loading.

one thing you did right was to post it here in SHT.

I find it ironic that I used to have the exact opposite problem. I would have too much weight around the doghouse and it would make planing out the boat quite a chore in a 25mph zone with heavy traffic. I used to have to send people to the bow, until I removed the seats from the doghouse area.

I guess the moral of the story is that proper weight distribution is a big deal in a small craft.
