I bought new tires 5 weeks ago the tires probably have less than 1k miles on them and the surfaces feel rough. Looks like the tires I just replaced! Any ideas why?? Looks like I won't even get another 1k miles out them!!!! :-(

Tire size and load rating?
Trailer weight?
What kind of pressure are you running?

5.80 12 I have no idea about pressure the tire store put them on. These are the same tires I had on before and they lasted almost a year. Where I live most the lakes are 50- 100 miles away and in the mountains with many curves.

You don't check them before you use the trailer?? Might want to take a look at the side wall pressure and then see what is in the tires.

Depending on the load range, your tires will use 60 to 90 psi!
If the guy at the tire store inflated them to 32 psi like an auto tire......

You should be checking the tire pressure before every trip. Seriously!
Under-inflated tires are the #1 cause of catastrophic tire failure.
For less than the price of a set of wheels, you can get a Small Air Compressor for the garage to inflate them with.

that second picture looks as if you have a bent axle .

Re: tires wearing fast!

Looks exactly like a classic case of tire over inflation to me. The centers are the only part that is wearing fast. Any other condition would seem to wear across the tire different than that pictured. And if your previous tires worked okay then you have a tire inflation issue... If the axle were knocked out the tires would wear fast but not just in the center. And if the axle was indeed bent it also would wear completely different than pictures as well... So check the tire pressure and adjust for the load...

What boat is sitting on this trailer. What sort of "stuff" do you add to the boat when you travel? A tire pressure gauge is a couple of bucks at any auto store. That may be the best "tool" in the glove box of your tow vehicle. As was pointed out, trailer tire failure is almost always due to inflation or overloading issues.

You should also check the lug nut torque. Shops often don't tighten them to spec, and to cover their azz, they tell you to check them, (its in the fine print on your service receipt).

+? on the tire over inflation.

The max inflation of the tire is on the sidewall and it gives the max weight for that inflation preasure.
If you are no where near the max weight, drop your inflation (PSI) down.

If your axle was/is miss alighned there would be a side scuffing on both tires across the tread, and or you would see the trailer not tracking straight behind your vehicle if it was bad.

It looks like the center rib of the tire is the only one carrying the load.

I have 12" tires on my jon boat trailer and run them at 30PSi, max pressure is 50 or 60PSI. 5 years old with probably 10-15K miles on them and they still have plenty of tread left. The tires are rated at 990# each, but are only carrying around 300# each (bathroom scaled it).

It may be over inflated or the wrong load range tire.
