Titled as a '68, but I think it's a '63

Picked this Starcraft up a few months ago. No plate, other than 16' runabout. Hull number was reissued by Ohio. Motor was titled as a '68, but turns out to be a '67. Any help with a firm identity would be nice. I think when the title work was done, the 3 looked like an 8 and that's what happened. Hull is fiberglass. Restoring over this winter.

since no answers yet from those more knowledgeable, i'll jump in with my ignorance. i think your title might be correct. the curved-plexi windshields went away on most models in the early 60s, replaced with the 3 piece flat-glass windshields. also, the boat has a very early-60s look to it.

either way, nice boat. and welcome. we'd love to see more pix

Nice old rig:)

Barato is right about the windshield, I was thinking the same thing.

Take a look in the brochures, there is a link in my signature to the thread. You should be able to get the model ID from either pictures or thru a series of measurements.

I believe it's a '63. Looks like a comet.

And more pics. Notice curved windshield and fuel cap for a mounted tank.

Thanks for the compliments. I get them everytime I take it out, both on the road and in the water. I don't think it was a bad deal for $400. That is a '67 Johnson 80hp Electramatic. Got video of it's first run in the water.

Here's the video...

Nice looking hull and it looks like you've got that motor running great!

Yes, it was a battle, considering it never seems to be one problem with the older motors. Now I'm thinking of something bigger to go on Lake Erie with. Put-in-bay is calling me in the spring.

I am just wondering, if this is a comet, how many are still around. Seems all I can find are Jupiters. Are the glass boats of this vintage few and far between now? I've yet to find another one posted anywhere.

Yeah the glassers are rarer due to rot. You can leave a tinny in a field for a decade and it would still be ok after replacing the deck and transom. A glasser with rotted stringers is a much bigger project so many have been scrapped.
