I've got 2 boats in construction, and one will for sure be completed in time for spring. That is an 8' drift pram that I'm just finishing up. It will have either a 3.5hp Hangkai ( if it runs/ operates ok enough ) or a 2.5hp Suzuki 4 stroke if I have to open up the piggy bank.

I understand the 'concept' behind what NY does for registration and I have a form filled out ( boat HIN application ). Has anyone gone through that process? I know some of the forest rangers locally through my work, but they have not been by for me to ask

Did it many years ago. Had to jump thru hoops. I did give the boat a HIN. The DMV also required me to submit copies of receipts from a lumber yard for the materials, West marine for the hardware, etc. It took me several trips until I had the documentation that satisfied the lady behind the counter.

It IS possible, just not a pleasant task. Good luck.

if it's a DMV hangup, I can probably go to my local tiny DMV and hand her some random plywood receipts and the fiberglass stuff I just bought for it and get away with it. I constructed the boat years ago.

The bigger boat I may keep the old registration from my grandfathers boat, since I'm using much of the fiberglass features and fixtures from it after it was destroyed
