After putting in 0.22 capacitors @50volts, I got a spark on one plug. The next day there was nothing. I cleaned the points and set them to 0.20" Then I set the coil air gap to 0.10". I'm not sure what the correct setting is. Still nothing. I need some new ideas. Thanks.

You could take the coils to a dealer, and have them test the coils under power. You can test them with a ohm meter, put that won't pick up a leak in the coil.

Improper air gap will cause poor spark, but not complete loss of spark unless it is a mile off. .010 is about right. Do you have a multimeter that can accurately measure less than an ohm? If you do, connect it between the armature plate and the coil wire connection on the points. Leave the coil & condenser connected also. Then observe the resistance as you turn the shaft (remove the round magnet first--otherwise you will get funky readings). It should be around an ohm when the points are open and zero when they are closed. If it does not meet these tests, your points either are not clean or they are shorted...or the coil primary is bad, which is rare. But don't be fooled by a meter that can't read such low resistances.

FR,

I took the points out like you did and polished them to a shine. Now both leads have a spark. I've seen Briggs & Stratton points that dirty or more and they worked.

Thanks. for the help.
