I'm working on the old TN27 and think I should change the plugs.

Champions site only goes down to 1952 and I believe mine is a 1951.

Champion says J8C.

Somewhere else here on Iboats I think I saw J6C.

I don't think there's much difference but thought I would try to determine the correct plug.

Any ideas?

Re: TN27 Help what spark plug?

TN 27 is 1950/51 but the list we mostly refer to for plugs only goes back to 1954 for the 5 hp but give J6C for 1954. other models from the early 1950s also use J6C

J8C is hotter than J6C and I dont see it suggested for anything. All J4C or J6C.

I'd use J6C at 0.030"

Thanks Vic S.

THe J8C came from Champion's website but it only referenced 5 hp back to 54

I'm glad you replied. It may have been bad to run the 8 and run it too hot
