Re: To all you that have a winter...

I have some work to do to mine before the season so I'll be bringing mine home from storage early to mid March. Hope to be boating a couple weeks after that with it. My dad has a little 14' that I'll hopefully be taking out even sooner.

Re: To all you that have a winter...

I started today. I pulled one out of the water to do some bottom paint and prop repair. She will be back in the water by the weekend. :D

I'm getting disliked and expecting a ban on me soon.

I do winter maintenance according to the trickle down theory......starting in late fall through winter and into spring. That way I can spend little bits at a time and the wife doesn't yell as much......lol

Re: To all you that have a winter...

I have been very lucky considering the age of my rig and with the knowledge I have aquired here it only takes me a day and I'm ship shape and theis process starts the day the Army corp starts closing the gates to the dam and allowing the lake to fill back up usually the 1st or 2nd week of March. Hopefully this year it will be sooner than later I need to shake down some O/D work I did @ the end of the summer I did'nt get to test.

Re: To all you that have a winter...

I start first by prepping my bank account. I usually wait until our overnight lows don't go below freezing before I begin work on the boat, then by the time the ice is off the lakes all of my prep work is done.

Re: To all you that have a winter...

I am a very regimented person and pursue my activities the same every year.

* The boat is winterized, waxed and detailed the 15th of October.
* Hunting season runs Oct 15 to Dec 1st.
* Dec 1st to Christmas - the boat is upgraded, repaired, parts ordered, etc.
* New Years to March - winter sports, indoor shooting, etc.
* March 1st - fishing on the shore till the ice breaks
* May - June 15th - fishing only
* June 15 - July - half time in the boat / half time working on the house
* July 4th - drop dead day to have all house painting, gardening, whatever 100% done (otherwise waits till next year)
* July - Oct 15th - grass cutting only 1 hr /week - the rest of the time in the boat. No excuses.

Re: To all you that have a winter...

My slip fees hit next month, but I can't put in until May 1st. My list of "to do" is an ongoing thing with parts accumulation starting when I winterize. About mid March I quit worrying about the weather and uncover it and start detailing and upgrading. I usually run all summer without a hiccup, Posiedon willing.

Re: To all you that have a winter...

I just got another boat myself, just a tin boat but it floats.
Here in the mountains of AZ we do get snow and sometimes the lake ices a bit too but I have also seen 55-70? days during the Winter.
Local lakes are oars or electric motors only so I am going to just keep the battery charged and watch the temps!

Re: To all you that have a winter...

Mine sits in my inlaws heated barn during the winter, so I can visit and work on it anytime I need to. This winter, I've been over there almost every weekend doing upgrades. :)

Early in March, I'll bring her to the summer home (in a barn on the family farm). And I'll start using her as soon as the temps stop freezing at night.

To all you guys in the south, careful how nice you make it sound down there or your waters will be over run when the rest of us move down there.

And I like that 4th of July home chores rule....if it's not done by then it waits until next year. I'm going to try that one on my wife.

 your a lucky fella. i don't even have a garage, let alone a heated one..

i'll start prepping end of march or early april with goals of being out sometime around then also. prepping for me is running the alignment bar and putting the drive back on + a tune up. everything else was hopefully done at end of season last fall during winterization..
