I don't care if ya' ain't an expert. This stupid wash machine is driving me to drink.....well....at least it don't gotta drive far.

Here's the story. Hotpoint superduty two speed 8 cycle machine.

Won't spin. Fool with the door switch and all is well. Won't spin again. Remove door switch and jumper the switch wires. Works OK for a day or so. Then....don't spin agin. Fool with it and all of a sudden the pump starts working and it decides to spin. Is this a timer problem or do I got it so far outta wack it'll never come back?

Signed.....Alone with a Longneck Bud.

Sounds like everything is working. A few buds and a timing light should do it. It probably is the timer however a new timer is usually as expensive as a new machine.

Radio shack has a product called contact cleaner. It comes in a spray can. You might try that and see if it helps. try and find a way to spray it into the main timer.

One more thing to check. Machine will not go into spin cycle if pump cannot drain tub. Make sure drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Have had this happen to me before. Good luck and just keep the Longnecks cold.

Hey you river rat, oops I mean Mr. OBJ!

There should be a tube on the side of the tub that monitors the water lever. Sometimes soap powder and sludge gets into the tube. If it does that, the timer won't engage the spin drive cause it thinks the tub is still full of water.

At least that is my thought on it. We have washing machines in all our stores, and yes they break em and I fix em, and or go to Lowes and buy a new one.

Washer Tip: If you buy a new washer and wish to have one that is easy to work on, purchase one that has a removeable front panel. The ones with the sides and front as one piece are a PITA to work on.

I am far from an expert on washers. Ours sometimes wont spin if the wash in the tub is not evenly distributed, if it is all to one side some kind of switch kicks in that wont allow it to spin. Have had this happen a couple times, just moved the wash around in there and all was fine.

Naw SS....the frig gave us a fit awhile ago and I thought it was fixed. Guess it wasn't. Just bad timing. OH Well.....replace both or get them fixed...better now than at the end of the year.....figure to retire at the end of the year. Don't need that kind of trouble then.

OBJ, Ed put up the web site that helped me in my time of need. Very user friendly, Pictures, trouble shooting instructions, and parts. I couldn't have done it, with out it. And I keep the link in mail box for the future.

repairclinic.com

Whats with the frig? where is the water coming from? Was it keeping ice cream frozen before it died? Could be the water pump if you have an ice maker... give us the status....is it working/running still?
