As I have posted before I bought a 2002 SV1700 in December and am now gettting it ready to go in the water in a couple weeks. The boat was used in salt water and always kept on a trailer. It has never been bottom painted. I was planning on scuffing it up with 80 grit and painting it.

I bought a gallon of Interlux ACT bottomcoat today and my friend at the marina store is telling me I should barrier coat this bottom before putting on the Interlux.

I am calculating one and a half gallons of Inter protect 2000E @ $90.00 per gallon. Now I am up to $350.00 + a full day off to do this job.

The question is to Barrier coat or not. It will be in a slip in Greenwich Bay, RI from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. (4-5 months). Please advise guys !!!!

If you're going to paint the bottom for sure do the barrier coat. No point in doing only have the job.

Happy painting.
