I just bought a 1987 150 v6 johnson to replace a failling force 85hp. Im putting it on a 17'or so 1985 Bayliner openbow caprie. Nowere on this boat is a raitting plate or sticker.Im hopeing with a little transom support, like fiberglassing some braces on the inside for more support.I hope its not to big or heavy. The 85hp just wouldnt pull with people in the boat. Skiing is all we do.I just hope for safe, and hassel free boating from the man with blue lights.Any thoughts or addvise would be great.Thanks..

Re: To big a motor?

Hi Now,
the 1985 1600 capri HP rating=90
the 1985 1900 capri HP rating=140
a 1986 1800 capri HP rating=125
I hope this helps. A 150 on the 1600
may not fly with the water patrol. If
the transom is rotten you will have to
fix it or steel plate it.
...good luck...corm

You are aloud to put whatever size motor you want on your boat. But if you get into an accident or hurt someone you would be liable for negligence. If your transom is in good shape i would not hesitate to put that motor on. C Hawk.
