I'll Never install another Steel fuel tank in a boat,.... Ever Again........
And,.....
The Only Way I'll Ever install another Aluminum Tank,......
Is when there's No Possible Way to fit a Plastic 1 In.............

But,.......
That's Me....... I Can't see Any downsides to Plastic Fuel Tanks.........

Re: To buy Metal or Plastic gas tanks

Tempo's 12 gallon tanks are good space savers and small enough to carry when full. That's what I have in my 15' Whaler with Johnny 48SPL. Too small for a day with a 150, I think, but 2 of them would be a good option.

I have used the Tempo 24 gallon with 70 and 100hp engines and found it okay, but I really like the ability to take the 12 out of the boat and to the service station rather than pay a bazillion bux a gallon at a marina. I also like to use 2 tanks, so that when one runs dry I know I have half a full load left and can refill the empty with 100% fresh fuel. Also, if there is contamination of some sort I still have a clean tank to get home on.

I am assuming you are thinking portable rather than permanent. No way will I ever use portable metal tanks again.

I recommend 2 Tempo or similar box shaped 12 gallon plastic tanks.

18 gallons with a 150? You're going to want more fuel with you than that. Does the boat have a built-in tank onboard now, and this is an auxiliary?

Re: To buy Metal or Plastic gas tanks

Its a 01 150 optimax i plan on 1 18 gallon tank and a 12 gallon tank. I really dont plan on leaving the bay here. No it does not have an onboard tank.
Shouldnt that be enough for its first summer on the water? I had planned on buying a larger tank but alot of people told me the 18 and 12 would be ok...
