PROBABLY A DIRTY CARB,OR WEAK FUEL PUMP .COULD BE SOMETHING INTERNAL CAUSING LOW CRANKCASE COMPREEION BUT NOT VERY LIKELY.AS OLD AS THE MOTOR IS I WOULD DEFINETLY GO THROUGH THE CARB PROBLEM OR NOT IT WILL BE GOOD FOR THE ENGINE.

No not yet, Im a little nervous about doing it but I will have the kit tomorrow.

I remember trying to rebuild a car carb once and it didnt work out very well. I hope boat carbs are easier. Are there things I should know before I dig in? From what people here say they aint that bad, but yall know what your doing I dont. Should I soak the carb body in some kinda solution. I know I have to remove all the orings or they will deteriorate. I hope it aint bad. My last experience was about 20 years ago with a car carb.

Spur
All righty then! Great, you got the book, ya got the parts and ya got this board. Should be a cake walk. I personaly don't like soaking a whole carb body. I doubt it would be necessary any way. Just remove the needle valves, the bowl, filter, float, and float valve. Wear eye protection! Squirt a little carb cleaner through all the holes, blow them out with air. Then put the hole mess back together useing your new parts, adjust yer needle valves and go kill hogs.
