don't cut the cable!.you will have to drill a big enough hole up as high as you can on the transom to get plug end of the cable through.as your water line is just above the drive.once you get the end through fill the hole with scalcione .you can go to your local marina tell them what you are doing and ask them for the hardware to do this type of install.they probably wont have the stuff hanging on the wall but the rigging shop might have this stuff laying around.

I ran my cord high on the outside of the transom and drilled a 1" hole to get the head of the cord through. I plugged around the cord with a 1"x1/4" rubber split grommet. Gave it a profession finish and no wave action will splash through.
Cutting the cord was never a consideration. Just my 2 cent. Good luck.

Ive done that before and it is REALLY REALLY A PITA to get the wires back together!! The little wires in there are verry thin like in a phone line or sonething. The little wires that are coated inside there are some kind of metal that is so thin that you can not make the two spliced ends hold on to eachother when you twist them together cause they are so thin. I eventually thought i had it all back together once i used a sodering iron but after a lot of trouble i hooked it all back up and i kept getting errors on the screen cause i thing there was something loose in there. Its not worth it to cut it.
