I read your response dated May 2, 2002 to the post titled, "OK...what is a good quality boat?" You seemed to speak highly of the Sea Hunt Triton 172, which is a boat I have been looking at recently. It seems like a decent boat to enter at, as I am new to boating, and staying with a relatively good quality boat within a certain budget is necessary for me. I do tend to believe however, that you get what you pay for, and the real good price on the one I looked at does make me think twice about purchasing it. I did a search on this forum for "Sea Hunt" and got a good number of posts and replys to look at. Yours and one other was the only positive ones for Sea Hunt boats. If you have a chance, do that search, and read the replys on the post title "Sea Hunt boats...are they any good?" then tell me what you think?

Thanks, Martin J

Hey, Martin
The long description made by one fellow did not sound like the Triton we use. All hardware on this boat is stainless - no Velcro. Also, I'm not sure about Yamaha owning Sea Hunt - this one has a Mercury 90. As I said before, we have really abused this hull (90-100 mile long round trips in HEAVY chop). We have done multiple trips up to 35 miles off shore as well. No structural problems yet. The boat's actual owner is a marine systems engineer - he looked at over a dozen brands of boats and settled on the Sea Hunt.

EGalvTex, Thanks for taking the time to get back to me, I really appreciate it. Yeah, the boat that gentlemen was describing doesn't sound anything like what I looked at. The Sea Hunt boat I looked at is made in Lexington South Carolina. I talked to the owner of the dealership where they sell them by me today, and he said he has lots of satisfied customers I could talk to including a local coastal Police Dept. who now uses them with no complaints. I also did a search at another forum called www.thehulltruth.com, and got nothing but praise for these boats.

The one I saw comes with a 90 hp Yamaha 2-stroke, and trailer. The whole packaqe including these options; full bow rail, wash down system, vertical rod rack, and more was $15,599.00 Sounds like a good price based on all I have looked at over the past several months. Just hope it is not underpowered with the 90, as the max allowed hp is 135. Anyway, thanks again for your input. I might just be purchasing one of these within the next month. Martin J
