Has anyone got any input on the new flushing kits that are supposed to remove saltwater. I've seen them in boaters world. They hook to the hose and calim to remove the salt build up in the heads from the saltwater use. I flush with the hase and using the muffs but have seen the inside of some older Evinrudes that really needed cleanig out. Spoke with one mechanic and he claimed having the chambers cleaned out after several years use would greatly extend the life of the motor.

Re: To flush or not to flush this is the question

Hi ya' Whalerman...

Most guys that have responded to similar posts like yours seem to prefer running their engines using flushettes (ears) to flush. This is because the tstats will open and alow water flow through them also. Doing this after every trip to salt water seems to be the preferred method. No one has really said that opening the motor, ie, removing heads and exhaust covers for cleaning is a good idea. But probably couldn't hurt every other year or so. Not a salt water person myself so I'm just going on past posts. Maybe one of the salt water guys will add their 2 cents worth here.
