I'm looking at purchasing some 17 oz. Biaxial Fabric to encapsulate a styrofoam box. I've read that Mat provides bulk but offers no more strength? Is this true and if so should I get the no mat since I only want it for strengthening the walls to sit on and not actually increase the wall dimensions of the box? Thanks in advance for your help.

Matt will suck up epoxy which add weight & cost, not much of a benefit to using it.

The biaxial has mat sewn on to the back of it already if you get the 1708. It has 3/4 oz. mat sewn to the back of 17 oz. fabric. It's like doing 2 layups at once.
