Hey gang. I have some motor muffs but after doing some reading, some people say to do it and don't start the motor, some say it's fine for a short time....etc. I have a 1989 Mercruiser 3.0L I/O. Is it ok to muff it, then turn the motor on?? Thanks gang! ;)

You can run the motor on muffs but keep the rpm's under 1500.

That's what I was thinking guys. I just saw a couple things where some engines said don't run it so I just wanted to be safe and check here. Thanks! :D

Got any pictures of your Cheetah?

One of my boats is a 1985 Cheetah, and I would like to see yours.

Please PM me for my email address!

I do have some pictures. Here are all the ones I have on my computer here at work. It's actually an '88. I just realized I said '89 above.

Nice boat ya got!!! I always warm my boat up on muffs before heading to the lake. Idle speed in neutral and you should be okay, I have the Penta 3.0l version and have not had an issue.

Re: To muff or not to muff??

i assume your talking about using these engine flusher devises? http://www.iboats.com/Seasense_Univ...49637698--**********.191413946--view_id.56612 or some devise similar.
I just saw a couple things where some engines said don't run it
i think someones talking about the procedure used when using a motor flusher.
yes, use your motor flusher (muffs) everytime your start your engine.
put them on your drive. turn the water on. then start and run your engine. when done, turn your engine off. then turn the water off to the motor flusher (muffs) devise.
i think what someone is telling you about is not to run your engine ever w/o water going to the impeller located in your drive. the impeller will self destruct in short order w/o water going to it.... this is why you must turn the hose on first and supply water to the impeller.....
yes, that's a sweet looking cheeth for sure. nice boat man...

Re: To muff or not to muff??

Thanks for all the complements guys. :D

I bought the boat a few years ago from a family friend who bought it new and has taken EXTREMELY good care of it. I'm just trying to keep it in as good of shape as I got it. It's always been cleaned after each use and always been in dry storage so I think that's why it?s in such good shape.

By the way, I will be selling it towards the end of the summer if anyone is interested in coming to AR to check it out. :D My wife is in graduate school part time right now and starting in December, she will be going full time from December '09 till December '10 so it won't get much, if any, use next summer and I don't want a boat that is 21 years old to sit a whole summer. Plus when she graduates in December '10 and gets a job, we should be able to get a newer, larger (this one can only hold about 4 comfortably) boat then. :D If anyone is interested, just shoot me a pm.
