talking to a lot of people here lately about my 71 johnson 125....seems to be some mixed opinions....a local wrench said to junk it and another to repair it...the dealer won't work on it and i am frustrated....first let me say this for those of you who did not follow my other post....i got this thing for 300.00 boat motor trailer.... pictures ...first thing i did was to rebuild the carbs no problems there....next a compression check cyl 1 100 psi cyl 2 100 psi cyl 3 130 psi and cyl 4 110 psi....i have assumed that those readings are fine and went to the next step juice....juice at the buss however the coil has a crack across it and a corroded wire, the rectifer has a grounded, corroded hot wire and there is no spark on any cylinder....i have found the pulse pack for this thing and it is not cheap...344...have not looked for the other parts yet....oh one other thing the eletric shift is stuck in forward.....motor needs to be running and in water to shift to netural...but a huge warning on the air slicencer to only start in netural.....opinions please.......

Here are my opinions:

1. Hydroelectric shift- junk
2. Pulse Pack- cost more than motor is worth.

I say sell it and buy a newer motor that does not have the electric shift. You can find these all over, for fairly cheap. I think that they quit with the electric shift in 75, because I had a 76 that did not have it.

follow nates advice. went your route with a 17 foot tri hull. was going to use to run trot lines and pull 50 pots hahaha never made the first cent actually only fished the pots a few times before i gave up on it. any water at all gets in the lower unit it wont shift and try and find used shafts that dont have grooves in them where the seal mate. good luck bro
