To Replace Or Not Replace

I scored an old pontoon and motor for $600. She's not much to look at, but the intent is to use this primarily as a barge across a big lake (we have no road access). The pontoon and motor went unused for 6+ years. My neighbor and I surprisingly got the 1993 Evinrude running with minimal effort. One of the things that he already did was replace the lower unit oil. Now that we've got it running, my thought is that the impeller should be replaced. He is hesitant to pull the water pump since he already replaced the oil.

It did appear to pee out a good stream of water but I am worried about how dry/cracked/old the impeller may be. Am I being overly paranoid or would you run this thing as-is for a season?

Oil has nothing to do with changing the water pump impeller !-----Just remove the lower unit.----Install a new impeller.----Put the lower unit back on.----A golden rule of getting ---" a new to you motor " is to install a new impeller !----Again there is no need to drain or worry about the gear oil when changing an impeller out.

I guess that you're right. I always do them at the same time, so I guess in my head, I was thinking that they were linked. Thanks!
