Know I getting a Tohatsu, my questions is 15hp or 20hp. According to Manu specs, both are 351cc, both weigh 114lbs, both have a bore stroke of 61x60(?), only diffence is 15 is 5-6000 rpms and the 20 is 5400-6100 rpms. Motor is going on a 14 alum V rate at 640 pounds. With myself and son we are looking at 400lbs + 114lb motors and misc equip. Boat is rate for a max 20hp. Price difference is $250. Confused how the difference is RMPS makes up the the additional 5hp. As always thanking everyone in advance for there knowledge.

Go for the one max transom rated for, full HP is theoretically achived at full wot rpm, some states at slight passing middle, betwenn mim-max factory stated wot parameters. Probably 15 is carbed, 20 is injected. Both have same CC and timing advance.

Happy Boating

Ditto. Don't know the mechanics of the two motors, so can't answer that, but for a $250 difference, if your boat can take a 20 horse, then do that. You'll be happier in the long run. Just make sure your boat is rated for a 20.
