I have a couple or more of these to work on so I started with the probable parts candidate. I intended to get the lower water pump housing out . The old original gaskets were hard and bound to stay in place. The bolts holding the top of the water pump were a challenge by themselves but were removed with penetrant, patience and some heat. I figured the same plan for the lowerwater pump base but noooooo. I broke the darn thing. I was careful , I saw that to much prying could break it. It broke anyway. So on the others : is there a practiced way to remove the base.? These are salt water motors so there is that consideration. I am cautious and, capable and patient just would like to know what if anything I am missing . Besides training .Thank you.

With salt water use there's no consideration whatsoever specially if the mentioned parts have never been disassembled before. Salt sticks everything in place. After removing what's been damaged, clean all female threads and apply marine grease to each new bolt thread, that way will be easier to remove them on next disassembling. When dealing with salt everybody learns the hard way, will include myself...

Thank SR. Like yourself I work with mostly salt water motors. The bolts although difficult did come out. It is the lower pump body being stubborn. I heated it once again placed it upside down in a vice so that vise grabs what is left of the pump body wrapped the unit in rags and tried to twist it back and forth a bit. I did get movement. so there is a start. Then my wife called for lunch. The unit can wait carne asada and eggs could not .Next I am going to apply a lot more heat while in the vice with pry bars and rubber mallet at the ready. I think the vice and heat combination will work. Will post the results

So managed to remove all water pump upper bolt's right ? but the pump body is still stuck in place ? Can you post some pics for better clarification, one pic says much more than 1K written words. Yes carne asada con huevos can't wait that long specially if the wife has already called... LOL !!
