Just seeing if anybody knows the difference between these new motors other than rpm range.( $1169 for the 4 and $1369 for 5&6)
I've heard the difference lies in the carbs as they all have the same displacement, bore, stroke and weight. Is it possible to put a 6hp carb on a 4? If so does anyone know where to get one .At nearly $200 difference in price I could almost justify buying a $100 or less carb and installing. But then again is it worth it to go through all of the trouble to save a hundred ?

pistons, carb, cylinder heads could be different. A 2 stroke could mean different block, different exhaust tuning and Reeds. A 4 stroke could mean different intake, exhaust manifolds or camshaft
A thorough comparison of the original parts lists of all the engines will reveal what is different

in any case I doubt you will get the parts needed for less than the initial price difference. Then add the price of labour.
Warranty would be void

If being 2 strokes, 4 & 5 are same one cylinder 102 CC powerheads, carb differs. If being a 6HP it's a twin cylinder OB with 170 CC powerhead, different animal though. Could buy a 6 HP and pass it to a 9.8, both has same CC powerhead with different carb and time advance.

If being 4 strokes, all 3 models shares same 127 CC poweheads, just different carbs.

The 5 & 6 models can't possibly cost same, there's always a HP price difference for dealers to play with and buyers to pay. Unless the dealer happens to be your closest friend or a relative LOL!

No one said they were the same price. Each HP size has a price difference even though the manufacturing cost is the same. Basically it's a market price based on what that HP sized engine sells for rather than a manufacturing price difference.
